Tiitu — AI-assisted mobile app for care staff

A RAG-based mobile app that answers care workers' questions from their organisation's own guidelines — by voice or text.

Scope

We are part of building Tiitu, Kardemummo Oy’s AI-assisted mobile app for social- and healthcare professionals. Tiitu travels in a care worker’s pocket as a knowledge base: ask by voice or text, and the app answers in seconds based on the organisation’s own guidelines and practices. Typical environments include care homes, assisted living, and home care.

The need is real. Kardemummo surveyed over 200 care professionals about their daily challenges, and the top answers were gaps in information flow, slow information retrieval, and coping at work. Tiitu addresses these by offering one place for all work-related knowledge on every shift — and doubles as an onboarding aid for new employees and substitutes. The app moved into piloting in three care organisations in spring 2026.

Technical solution

The backend is written in Go and runs on Azure; infrastructure is managed with Terraform and sign-in is handled through Azure AD. The mobile app is built with Flutter for Android, with conversations updating in real time. Answers come from a RAG architecture: the organisation’s own documents are indexed for vector search, and an Azure OpenAI language model composes answers from them. Tiitu never stores or modifies the organisation’s documents — it only retrieves and presents information. Speech recognition lets staff ask questions mid-task without typing.

The service improves the discoverability of information and supports daily care work while respecting information-security and privacy requirements.
